Welcome to my portfolio.

You may expect adventure, daring acts of creativity, cool creative people that I have met along the way, and many colorful pictures. Sorting through the digital database of the past 20+ years of my experience in the creative field, I have chosen to highlight my favorite projects that land on a wide spectrum of expertise. Marketing, arts administration, journalism, graphic design, art, historical restoration, videography — and there is still so much more to explore! I would like to share with you what I loved about the chosen endeavors and knowledge/skills that I have learned. This was the best and most authentic way to describe what moves me every day and why I continue to be a creative adventurer.

Artist Statement

Art is more than an object of admiration to me. In fact, I am drawn to creative people and their stories more than the art itself. Art is a practice that, if integrated properly, could create a lifelong benefit for the artist and their community. It is not about financial gain — it is about balancing, thriving/improving and growing a survival skill. Humanity needs creativity.

Our tools keep changing over time, but the inner workings of the creative process remain simply consistent. Figuring out what works and how to manage that process is an individual responsibility. Every creative I meet has helped me to figure out what it means to be a creative. Every medium I explored has taught me something new about myself. Time has always been the secret ingredient and learning patience is inevitable.

The World and I

I was 5 years old when I crossed the equator for the first time. The privilage and exposure to the international experience at such a young age has guided my life’s direction ever since. I have a deep appreciation for cultures — it is a way for me to care about the world, its people and the arts.

People often ask me about my accent. My accent, along with my worldview, is an ongoing cross-cultural collaboration. I was born in the Soviet Union (now Russia), grew up in the Soviet embassy environment in Argentina, traveled different continents, and since 1999 have been an immigrant roaming the United States (New England and the Colorado Rockies) in search of home.

Working with Young Creatives

It is not easy to be a young creative and having to decode creativity (especially independently) when you have so many other things to figure out. Nurturing creativity in others is a rewarding goal. Most recently, I have been a part of organizing the GRID Creativity Summit in Providence for high school youth. I love seeing young creatives eyes light up when they realize that they are not alone, that by being a creative you join a giant tribe of well-meaning rebels who have empowered their senses, challenged themselves, and found a way to weave creativity into their lives.

Looking back, I would like to highlight one creative adventure in particular — the Mayor’s Youth Council. During the summer months of 2012, I led a council of 15-16 year old high school students in the city of Cambridge, MA to explore and build on the city’s public art collection managed by the Cambridge Arts Council. It was a journey across different disciplines that culminated in a city-wide public art project that the students developed and implemented themselves. Their chosen topic/goal was to stop the spread of violence.

Loved: engagement with place/community, mentorship
Learned: working with teenagers, and that teaching is not easy
