OP the Cyclops

OP, the one and only prehistoric Cyclops, is looking forward to meeting new friends! He is very friendly and lays eggs for children who are nice to him. A very rare and very magical creature, OP has been to carnivals and festivals around Massachusetts including Boston “Ahts” Festival, Somerville’s Art Beat, King Richard’s Faire, Gloucester Waterfront Arts Festival, Cambridge Carnival, Hyannis Arts Festival, Cambridge’s Summer in the City, First Night Boston and many more!

OP first appeared in Brett’s dreams, as a red rubber ball, which became an eye – big one with long eyelashes. The artist then molded the head, adding an electronic eye blink feature to animate the creature. The puppeteer is inside the puppet controlling the the mouth and the head. It was decided that the cyclops would have real hair to achieve a natural look. Till this day, “is it real?” is the most common question asked about OP.

OP, as we know him today, was performed for the first time in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA, in the summer of 2010.
