Graphics, annual reports, social media, website management, branding and re-branding, app creation, newsletters – an organization has many marketing and communications needs. Encountering a new need is always an adventure. Every notch on my resume brought new creative challenges and opportunities for growth.
It started with advertising. After honing my design and production skills as an intern for the Sterling-Rice Group in Boulder, CO, I accepted a job working as a graphic designer for the Aspen Times and the Snowmass Sun. The following two years could be summarized by frequent skiing, top-notch live music, seeing the Dalai Lama in person, being inspired by the story of Hunter S. Thompson, participating in the Wintersculpt festival, and designing the dailies as well as the weeklies in Aspen, CO. I was also honored with 5 design awards from the Colorado Press Association. In 2009 I drove East to study Arts and Nonprofit Administration at Boston University. Despite shifting my focus in the direction of the Arts, graphic design skills were still in demand at every organization that I have worked for since. Here is a look at some of the additional skills that I have added to my resume:
